Trivago buys TripHappy to further boost hotel search experience

Trivago has made its second acquisition in less than a year with US-based TripHappy, with no terms of the deal disclosed.

The startup helps travellers figure out where to stay that might best suit their needs.

According to a statement, TripHappy uses AI to present “relevant location and neighbourhood information” while consumers are researching hotels.

Trivago acquired Tripl in September saying it planned to go deeper down the personalisation route with the acquisition.

Germany-based Tripl uses AI to imitate how a travel agent might recommend hotels.

The company also recently partnered with Plug and Play saying it wanted to connect with early-stage startups to help the company “accelerate product innovations and improve user value.”

In a statement about the TripHappy acquisition, Trivago head of corporate development, Elie Matta says:

“We are always looking for innovative ways to solve the hotel search problem, making it easier for travelers to find their ideal accommodation.”

The statement also says that TripHappy was founded in 2015 and makes recommendations by analyzing location data on more than 25,000 neighbourhoods across 10,000 cities.

Founders Calvin Hawkes and Carl Grafmuller will now join hotel search team at Trivago.
