Existing and new investors alike continue to pour funds into the mobility sector, with Blacklane and Cabify this week’s recipients of significant funds for expansion.

Blacklane, the Berlin-based professional driver service, has heralded its Series D announced today as its biggest ever funding ground. While the amount is undisclosed, reports put the amount raised at some $40 million.

UAE-based conglomerate Alfahim is a new investor, contributing to the round alongside existing stakeholders Daimler Mobility Services and btov Partners.

The cash will be used “to fund new cities, global airport concierge services and product innovation.” It hopes to expand into the Middle East and North Africa, while the global launch of its airport concierge service as Blacklane PASS is based around the infrastructure and inventory acquired when it bought Solve last October.

Elsewhere, Maxi Mobility, the Spanish parent company of Cabify, is widely reported to have raised $160 million, valuing the business at $1.4 billion. Cabify operates in Spain and across Latin America, which has recently opened up as a new front in the taxi app war. Chinese-based Didi Chuxing recently took complete control of Brazil’s 99 while Brazil is widely acknowledged to be Uber’s second largest market.

One aside here is that Japan’s Rakuten is one of the main backers of Cabify, while Japan’s Softbank is one of the main backers of Uber.
