Ctrip buys another business to service Chinese international travellers

Ctrip has bought global ground transportation provider TangRen World, solidifying its position as a full-service agency for Chinese travellers abroad by offering bespoke in-destination products.

TangRen World operates in 100 countries and has more than 3000 Chinese-speaking drivers on its books. It has a ride-hailing app and also has a range of pre-booked options.

Yuchen Wang, CEO of Ctrip’s land and water transport unit, confirmed the deal to China Travel News. He said the business will be integrated into Ctrip’s platform but will continue to  operate as a standalone brand.

Late last year it bought two US-based ground handling businesses to serve its Chinese customers visiting the US as part of a group.

Ctrip’s acquisition of Skyscanner in November shifted attention towards its global plans, but bosses have repeatedly said that there is still massive growth potential in China. These two deals, which add to what it can offer outbound customers, confirms that its Chinese business will not be lost in its push to internationalisation.
