Expedia pushes vacation rentals with Dream Home game

Expedia wants to get more of its core audience interested in (and buying) vacation rental trips, so is trying everything it can to raise awareness.

Buying HomeAway for $3.8 billion was the big move, obviously, with listings from its new family member now featured on the motheship.

But now it’s time to go for the quirky web game.

Working with UK-based digital agency Melt Content, Expedia has created a microsite known as the Dream Holiday Home.

Just for fun, clearly, users can build their ideal rental property, picking from a selection of locations, styles, interiors, exteriors and entertainment options.

Commercial director of Northern Europe at Expedia, Alex Platts, says:

“The appeal of holiday rentals is exactly this – having ‘a space of your own’ for the duration of your holiday.

“We wanted to create an interactive game that played with that exact concept, and allows us to explore not just what holidaymakers are looking for in a real property, but what their dream stay looks like.”

Users can then share the results in the usual places and then, well, search and secure for something that will be completely different to the dream home:
