Interesting development in the world of travel search with Aviasales adding private jets into results in order to help fill so-called empty legs.

The Russia-based metasearch engine has collaborated with private jet search platform JetHunter to start including its unfilled segments in search results for flights returning to base.

Aviasales reckons there are around 3,000 empty legs being flown around the world every day, with around half in the US, 30% in Europe and the remaining 20% elsewhere.

CEO Max Kraynov says the move is “another step in the Uberisation of everything”.

The idea is that business travellers will see the option to use an empty leg – and without the hassle of going through a public airport – as cost-effective when compared to their existing use of commercial flights.

For example, a seat on a Challenger 300 aircraft from Moscow to Istanbul comes in at around 25% less than Aeroflot’s business class seat on the same route, according to Aviasales.

JetHunter CEO Arthur Abajian says:

“Business aviation flights are interesting for corporate clients and those who get used to fly in business class.

“In addition, we are sure such flights will interest experienced travellers who have tried many things and business aviation will bring new, but affordable impressions.”
