Amadeus touts Navitaire acquisition as group revenue for 2016 hits €3.4 billion

Amadeus saw revenues for the first nine months of 2016 increase by 14% compared to the same period last year, in part due to its deal to buy Navitaire.

The company bought Navitaire for $830 million in July 2015, in a bid to expand its airline IT division and cement that role with low-cost carriers.

Revenues for Amadeus during the first three-quarters of 2016 reached €3.386 billion, with EBITDA increasing by 16.4% year-on-year to €1.332 billion.

The strongest performing region for air bookings was Asia-Pacific, with travel agency figures coming in at 73.6 million (up 15.6%).

Its biggest, western Europe, climbed by 2.3% over the same period to 154.9 million.

Airline IT revenue, including the Navitaire figures, jumped by 33% to €1.167 billion.

Amadeus says its passengers boarded metric increased by a massive 83% to 1.028 billion, bolstered by 398 million via Navitaire.

President and CEO, Luis Maroto, says the company is making headway with its “new business” lines, adding:

“We completed the successful implementation of Amadeus Airport Sequence Manager and A-CDM Portal solutions in Copenhagen Airports.

“We are also advancing in the execution of our Hospitality IT strategy, by integrating Itesso and Hotel SystemsPro and by working with InterContinental Hotels Group in the development of a new-generation Guest Reservation System for the hospitality industry.”

The company says almost two-thirds of global air bookings that were processed through Amadeus were “eligible to carry a merchandising item”.
