OpenJaw and Travelsky open up
By cameron in Uncategorized
When China’s state-owned travel tech giant Travelsky bought Ireland’s OpenJaw Technologies earlier this year, many wondered if this was the start of a round of travel tech M&A driven by Chinese firms looking for a global presence.
Things have been fairly quiet since then, at least in public. Ctrip has been busy, as ever, buying up travel businesses rather than tech suppliers while conglomerates such as HNA have been buying stakes in hotels and airlines.
But pure-play travel tech tie-ups are thin on the ground, so far.
This week, Travelsky and OpenJaw execs appeared on stage together and shared some insights into the why, the how and the what of the $39.4m transaction.
Kieron Branagan, CEO of OpenJaw and Larry Liang, general manager of airline business for Travelsky, had the prime slot on the opening day of the TravelDaily Airline Distribution Conference, currently under way in Shanghai.
They were interviewed by Karen Zhang, vice president of OAG China. China Travel News has covered the session in detail.
